In a relationship where there is domestic violence, four criteria are present.
- Search for power
Your partner uses several different ways to take power or keep control over you.
- The intention to win
Your partner wants to dominate the couple, seeks power and wants to keep control. Their intention is to win at all costs.
- Persistence in actions and behaviour
Your partner uses the cycle of violence (tension, aggression, justification and reconciliation).
- Impact
The balance of power has an impact directly on you. You feel powerless, you are afraid of reprisals, and you have developed coping strategies to survive this violence.
